Food Safety

We are totally committed to the concept and implementation of food safety procedures. At every step of production: growing, harvesting, processing, packaging and shipping, the safety of our products is a primary consideration.

We train our employees to recognize the need for food safety and teach them how to achieve it. This training is ongoing: ensuring food safety is a standing part on the agenda of each and every staff meeting.

Our clear objective is to provide a top quality, safe product and to make sure that our employees understand this goal and have the knowledge and training to achieve it.

FIELD AUDITING PROGRAM

An independent third party, PrimusLabs.com, evaluates our food safety program.

They analyze our ranch histories, adjacent land use, fertilizer usage, water sources and usage, pest control, harvesting practices and employee hygiene and safety.

PrimusLabs.com prepares an individual audit based on this information for each of our ranches and a summary report with respect to our compliance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

PrimusLabs.com recognized Mills Family Farms for demonstrating "a commendable commitment to addressing food safety concerns and issues."

GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES (GAP)

Providing a clean and safe work environment for our employees and eliminating the potential for food product contamination is the heart of our Good Agricultural Practices program.

The GAP program evaluates growing site selection, adjacent land use, fertilizer usage, water sources and usage, pest control, pesticide monitoring, harvesting practices (including worker hygiene and field sanitation), packaging storage, product transportation and cooler operations.

Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) are developed and included in the GAP program to provide guidance to avoid potential contamination, and to prevent or correct its effects.
